Gertrude M. Chamberlain

January 21, 1922 — November 16, 2017

Gertrude M. (Gagnon) Chamberlain, 95, formerly of Timber Trail in Manchester, died Thursday November 16, 2017 at a local convalescent home. She was the loving wife of the late Norman J. Chamberlain for 66 years and mother of the late Carol Marie Schubert.

Gertrude was born in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada on January 21, 1922, one of eight children of Alphonse and Elizabeth Gagnon. She was raised on the family farm in New Brunswick, came to Connecticut at the age of sixteen, and has been a resident of Manchester since the early 1950's. She was a parishioner of St. Bartholomew Church and enjoyed flower gardening, knitting, baking and took great pride in her home. She worked many years as an accomplished seamstress.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Heather Chamberlain of Simsbury; four grandchildren, Kimberly Margonis, Kristin Solis, Sarah Chamberlain, and Curtis Chamberlain; six great-grandchildren, Caroline, Gillian, and Clayton Margonis, Ashtin and Jordan Solis, Adriana Kromish; a sister, Sister Anita Gagnon of New Brunswick, Canada, and numerous nieces, nephews.

A prayer service will be held Tuesday, November 21, at 10:30 AM at the Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester, with burial to follow in St. James Cemetery in Manchester. There are no calling hours.
