Gerald Besterfield

Gerald C. Besterfield, 77, of Manchester passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Woodlake at Tolland after an extended illness. He was born on October 17, 1936 in Chicago, IL son of the late George W. and Ruth (Herlisha) Besterfield. Prior to his retirement, Gerald had a lengthy career with over 35 years of dedication and service to Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in the Industrial Engineering Department.

He is survived by his four children; Debra Borho and Matthew Case Wolf of West Hartford, David Besterfield and his wife, Magdalena of Fairfield, Susan Kelly of Clinton, and Paul Besterfield of San Diego, CA, four grandchildren, his two sisters, Patricia Watkinson and her husband, James of Mundelein, IL and Diane Olson and her husband, Mike of Hampshire, IL and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his twin brother, George Besterfield.

Gerald's wishes were to be cremated with no services. The family will be having a private celebration of Gerald's life in his memory. The family would also like to give many thanks to Woodlake at Tolland for taking excellent care of Gerald over the last several years. The staff at Woodlake should be commended for their compassion and professionalism throughout his stay. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
