George S. Ober

George S. Ober, 91 of Enfield, formerly of Manchester, husband of the late Janice (Robertson) Ober, died Thursday, May 21, 2015 at an area convalescent home.
He was born in Sullivan, ME on December 21, 1923, son of Floyd and Helen (Green) Ober. George was raised in Maine, served in the Army Air Force during World War II, moved to Connecticut and was a longtime Manchester resident. He retired from the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company after thirty-three years of service.
He is survived by three children, Jeffrey C. Ober and his wife Melissa Joseph of Columbia, Cheryl E. Ober and her husband Russell Snow of Enfield, and Deborah Scozzafava and her husband James of South Windsor; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and numerous niece s and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Daryl Ober, a grandson, Daryl Jeffrey Ober, and three brothers, Rollins, Harvey, and Kenneth Ober.
"Camping, digging for clams, making clam chowder for the entire campground, mining for tourmaline, panning for gold, wood carving, making wood pens, trick or treating in the trailer pulled by the lawn mower, getting into trouble with his 3 brothers, story telling, never met a stranger and deeply loving his family. This was our dad, grampy and great grampy."
A memorial service followed by military honors will be held Wednesday, May 27, at 4:00 PM at the Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center Street, Manchester. Visiting hours are Tuesday, May 26, from 6 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home.
