Gary W. Jones, 72 of South Windsor, formerly of Manchester, loving husband for forty eight years of Linda Anne (Gordon) Jones, died Friday, September 8, 2017 at Manchester Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
Gary was born in Trenton, New Jersey on March 26, 1945, son of the late Harry P. and Mary E. (Herstein) Jones. He lived in the Hartford area most all of his life, graduating from Hall High School in West Hartford and served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Gary was a former firefighter for the city of Hartford and retired in 2007 as a custodian from the Manchester Board of Education.
He was a member of Trinity Covenant Church in Manchester, Manchester V.F.W. Post 2046, and a member of the Tin Can Sailors veterans group. Gary loved to sing, and was a former member of the Navy's Blue Jacket Choir and the Trinity Covenant Church choir.
With his wife, he is survived by two sons, Wayne P. Jones and his wife Melissa of Vernon, Benjamin I. Jones of Manchester, and his granddaughter, Lexus Barnett of Middletown.
He was predeceased by a brother, Carl A. Jones.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 16, at 10:00 AM at the Trinity Covenant Church, 302 Hackmatack Street, Manchester. There are no calling hours.
