Frederick Howard Ring, 82, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024 after enjoying a tranquil family vacation at the lake. He was surrounded by the love of his family and leaves behind wife Sharron, children Eric and Kara, son-in-law to Steve, sister Jane (MacDonald), and cherished grandson Silas as well as many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Catherine Bevans and Francis Howard Ring and brother James.
Born in Bridgeport Connecticut on March 3, 1942, Fred was the epitome of gentle loving kindness. A life-long learner, Fred graduated from Stratford High School and went on to earn degrees from University of Bridgeport (Mathematics) and University of Texas (Meteorology). He loved the travel and responsibility of serving as a Meteorologist in the United States Air Force where he was awarded numerous commendations. Fred later excelled as an Actuary in Hartford, Connecticut. He was active with the Hartford Running Club and a member of Glenbrook Tennis Club and enjoyed cycling and running in the Manchester Road Race and assorted 5Ks throughout New England. Upon retirement, Fred eagerly acquired the latest tech and made a point to stay current with news events and latest movies. Fred’s compassion for others led to a life full of animals and volunteer work. Shared his home with tropical fish, cats and dogs and worked to support the homeless, immigrants and his local community. Fred’s greatest joy was his family. He and Sharron shared 58 blessed years of marriage, raising 2 children and welcoming a grandson who could always bring a smile to Fred’s face. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for his family and his last days were spent showing his love and care for them. Fred’s intelligence, compassion and generosity will be remembered always and his legacy will continue to comfort all who knew him.
Fred’s family would like to thank the ICU staff at St. Francis Hospital for their compassionate care, and the Cardiac Rehab nurses at Manchester Memorial Hospital for their support and friendship.
