On September 7th, 2024, Fred Nelson, 82, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, after a short illness. He was born in England on July 20th, 1942 to Albert and Gladys Nelson.
Fred leaves behind Barbara, his loving wife of 59 yrs., his two devoted sons, Michael (Lisa), and Steven (Lisa), five cherished grandchildren, Bradley (Jussonjah), Rachel, Kyle, Ryan and Joshua, and one precious great grandchild, Grace.
Besides his parents, Fred was predeceased by his sister, Fay Edwards of England, and his brother, John Nelson of Scotland.
Fred was a Tool and Die Maker, first in England then in Connecticut where he made his home for 56 years.
As a boy, Fred was a Boy Scout for many years, then when his sons were growing up, became Webelos Leader with Troop 28, Hebron.
Fred and Barbara retired in 2005 and began 18 years of traveling and experiencing the lower 48 States, plus Alaska and Canada, all with a travel trailer and camping along the way.
Fred was an American Red Cross blood donor from the age of 18 until he was 81 years old, when he found himself to be the recipient of the same generous blood donations that he had freely given.
Calling hours and a short service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Holmes Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester, from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred"s honor may be made to The American Red Cross, 209 Farmington Avenue, Farmington, CT. 06032
