Franz (Frank) J Hoher III, 78, of Manchester passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.Born in Hartford, Frank was the son of the late Franz J Hoher, Jr and Florence (Burnham) Hoher. He was a 1963 graduate of Manchester High School and served in the Navy from 1963 to 1966.
After returning from the service, Frank attended Manchester Community College in Manchester and graduated with an Associate's Degree in Computer Science. He loved running and cycling and participated in countless races and several marathonsFrank worked for many years in Hartford as a Senior Analyst for Travelers and then later for the Hartford Courant. Later in life he enjoyed driving a school bus for the children of upstate New York and rural Connecticut
As a father, he was very involved in his children's activities as a coach and scout leader. They enjoyed skiing together, and taking trips to Disney World and Cape Cod. As a grandfather, he took great pride in his grandson, Alex, who followed in his footsteps and joined the Navy.
His wicked sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Frank is survived by his son, Franz J Hoher, IV and wife Kathleen Long of North Andover, MA, his daughter Shelley Hoher Graham and husband Stuart of Three Mile Bay, NY, and grandson Alexander Melo and wife Laura of Oak Harbor, WA. He is also survived by his loving sister Susan Elkhay of Vernon, CT, several nieces and nephews, and caring friends, including the mother of his children, Heidi Benson.
He was predeceased by a sister Joan Mellen of Brimfield, Mass
