Francis E. "Frank" Preston, 79, of Manchester, loving husband of 55 years to Carol A. Preston passed away at home on Thursday, April 9, 2015. Frank was born on May 15, 1935 in Buffalo, NY son of the late Warren and Evelyn Preston. He was raised in the Victor and Rochester, NY area, attended local schools and earned his Associate Degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He was a proud six year veteran serving in the 3rd Communications Company of the US Marine Corps and served for another fifteen years in Company D, 1st Battalion, of the 169th Infantry in the Connecticut Army National Guard. Frank retired from the Building & Grounds Department of the Manchester Board of Education. He was very active and was past Chaplain and served on the Governing Board of the Manchester Army & Navy Club. He was a member of the American Legion Post #102 and a member of B.P.O.E #1893 in Manchester. Frank was the current Treasurer and past President of the Manchester Veterans Council. Frank served as Treasurer of the Manchester Municipal Retirees Association. He was an avid freshwater fisherman. Besides his wife Carol, he is survived by his son, Douglas Preston of Victory, VT, his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Paul Petraitis of Hebron, three beloved grandchildren, Jeremie Preston of Burlington, VT, Isaiah Preston of Ellington and Allison Petraitis of Hebron, his sister, Gail Stone and her husband, John of Kingsland, GA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents Frank was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Ginette Preston. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 4-8 pm at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, April 15th at 1:00 pm in the Hillstown Road Veteran's Cemetery, 180 Hillstown Road, Manchester.
