Frances Smith

Frances K. Smith, 102, of Manchester, CT passed away peacefully at home on March 29, 2016. She was the wife of the late Arthur E. Smith, former president of Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and chairman of United Technologies Corp. They were married in 1936 in Worcester, Mass. Born in Trenton, NJ she was the daughter of the late Albert E. and Frances Albee Kenworthy.
Fran was an avid bridge player and enjoyed many hours playing cards with family and friends; was a long time member of the Manchester Country Club and played golf until her 90th year; served as president of Manchester Public Health Nursing; and was a volunteer and Life Member of the Manchester Historical Society. She enjoyed knitting for family, friends and church and was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church for 50 years.
She is survived by her children, David K. Smith of Manchester, Kenneth W. Smith and his wife Julie of West Columbia, SC and Francie Smith of Arlington, TX; by her beloved grandchildren Clinton W. Smith and wife Ashley and great grandson Arthur Hodgens Smith of Atlanta, GA, and Cory K. Smith and fiance Jennifer Ditota of Sullivans Island, SC; and by several special nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, her brother Stuart Kenworthy, her sister Louise K. Miller and her husband Dr. Gerard Miller, and her daughter-in-law Janice Roof Smith.
Her family will receive friends for memorial visiting hours on Friday, April 1, from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center St., Manchester. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
