Florence King

Florence (Johnson) Smith/King, 94, of Manchester, beloved wife of the late Newton H. Smith and James King Jr. died peacefully at home on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Florence was born in Manchester on September 10, 1922 daughter of the late Fred and Elizabeth (Gross) Johnson. Florence graduated from Manchester High School, Class of 1940, and attended Larson Junior College. A former member of South United Methodist Church and a longtime volunteer at Manchester Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her three children; Barry Smith, of Florida, Craig Smith (Smitty) and his wife LauryAnn of Manchester and Karen Smith of Vernon. She is also survived by two grandchildren; Barry Smith Jr. and Tammy Kaelin and her husband Darren, Great Grandson; Deven and Great Granddaughter Leah Grace all of Florida. Also survived by a Sister Irene Moore, Nephew Richard Moore and wife Theresa of Manchester. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 12:00 noon in East Cemetery 240 East Center St. Manchester (Section G. Westminster). There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Manchester Fire Department or the Connecticut Humane Society. Holmes Funeral Home, Manchester has care of the arrangements.
