Everett W. Anderson

Everett W. Anderson of Manchester, CT died Monday, August 28, 2023 at home at the age of 94. He leaves his loving wife of 51 years, Lorraine Burkhardt Anderson. Everett was predeceased by his son William Everett Anderson and his brothers Donald and Albert Anderson. Everett, known by most as "Poppy" and "Andy", also leaves stepson Roger A. Smith and wife Susan. His grandchildren include Heidi A. Smith and Victoria L. Smith. Everett was born October 19, 1928 in the Collinsville section of Canton, CT, the son of Albert and Susie Anderson. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in Germany. After his service, Everett was employed at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT from 1954 until his retirement in September 1987. Everett "Andy" was a wonderful, compassionate, loving, and funny man to all who knew him. He enjoyed New York Yankee and New York Giant games, bowling, and golf. He was selfless and humble, always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. He could never be too serious and ALWAYS made sure to make someone laugh or smile no matter the circumstance. One of his famous lines went like this, "You cant win them all". He had a positive vibe and spirit; he was one of a kind. He looked beyond circumstance and status and saw the person inside. Everett wholeheartedly loved his wife, Lorraine, at one time known as "Freddie". They married in June 1972 after meeting at Pratt & Whitney. Andy greatly admired his late mother-in-law, Ida Fratus also. They loved traveling the U.S. and the world together, from Bermuda to Canada to the south and west via travel trailer. They would go dancing and to piano bars after they worked 2nd shift together at Pratt & Whitney. Their love was seen and felt by all who knew them; they were best friends. Even in his last days he would ask, "Where is Grammy?" He would proclaim his love for her dozens of times a day. Everett attended sports games with his stepson Roger and was proud of Rogers USMC service. Everett loved his grandchildren Heidi A. Smith and Victoria L. Smith. He loved to golf, bowl, and have catches with Heidi. He would call her "Champ" and "#1". Their relationship was close from day one until the end. Poppy would drive her and other students to basketball and soccer games, always fighting for who would get to ride shotgun with him up front. Poppy would pick up Victoria from school frequently and take her to get a bite to eat together. She has fond memories of Poppy always driving her around. Poppys extended family and loved ones include Judy Rutherford, Pamela Home, David Rutherford, Kimberly Rutherford, Matthew Potts, and Robert Rubin. Poppy was greatly cared for and loved by John, Jennifer, and Grace O Brien. He is remembered by fellows at Pratt & Whitney, Apostle Nelson, his granddaughters friends/teammates/classmates. They dont make them like Poppy anymore. Always be kind whenever you can, always lend a helping hand, and always, "Hit em straight"! The Anderson family would like to also send a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jeffrey Katz and to the Vernon Nurses Association that took care of Everett in his final time. A special appreciation to Jill, Poppy's favorite nurse. :) The care and suport you all showed Poppy and his wife will always be remembered.
