Eugene P. Akeley

Eugene (Gene) P. Akeley, 85, of East Hartford, Connecticut, originally of Houlton, Maine, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 7th, 2024.
Gene is predeceased by his beloved wife, Gloria L. Akeley, married 68 years. He is survived by his son, Mark Akeley and daughter Kristen Akeley.
Gene leaves behind his loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren with whom he was known as Pa; Cristopher Akeley, his wife Kristen and daughter Reagan; Joshua Akeley and his daughter Adeline; Zac Sequeira and his wife Annie; and Lexi Sequeira and her fiancé Vinz Umali. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Megan Sequeira.
Gene was a dedicated electrician at Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, Connecticut and retired after 40 years with the company. Gene served in the Connecticut National Guard starting in 1961 where he was a part of the 43rd ID-243rd Signal Company. He also served in the 238th Supply and Service Battalion. Gene finished his time serving with the National Guard as a part of the State Area Command (S.T.A.R.C) where he retired in 1994 as an E-8 Master Sargeant. After Military retirement, he remained active as a Coordinator for the Connecticut National Guard Military Funeral Honors Detail, delivering a final salute to hundreds of veterans.
Calling Hours will be held for Gene at Holmes Watkins Funeral Home, located at 400 Main Street, Manchester CT on Thursday, December 12th at 9am till 10am followed by burial with full Military Honors at Green Cemetery in Glastonbury, Connecticut at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Department of Veteran's Affairs.
