Elwood Carter, 85, loving husband for forty-eight years of Suzanne ((Marcel) Carter, died Monday February 22, 2016 at a local convalescent home after a long illness.
He was born in Guilford, ME on September 22, 1930, son of the late Stanley and Louise (Martel) Carter, and was raised in Maine before moving to Manchester in the 1950's. Elwood served in the Army and spent his entire career employed in the automotive parts industry before retiring.
He was an avid Indy race car fan and attended the Indianapolis 500 for fifty-three years in a row. He enjoyed duckpin bowling at the Holiday Lanes in Manchester and until 2014 spent eighteen winters in Florida.
His family would like to thank the hospice staff of Masonicare in East Hartford and at Manchester Manor for the care kindness they gave Elwood and his family.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons and his daughter, Richard Risley and his wife Louise of Vernon, Michael Risley and his wife Peg of Agawam, MA, and Adelle Scully and her fianc Roger Thibodeau of Vernon; his sister and niece, Winnie Maycomber and her daughter Karen of Inglewood, FL; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 27, at 11:00 AM in St. Bridget Cemetery (Section 4), 180 Oakland Street, Manchester.
