Elmer O. Homans

Elmer O. "Sked" Homans, 92, of East Hartford died peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2017 after a brief illness. He was born on December 31, 1924 in Springfield, MA son of the late William and Lillian (Thayer) Homans. Sked was raised in Springfield, attended local schools and was a 1956 graduate of Hillyer College in Hartford with a BA in Business. He enlisted in the US Army in 1943 serving his country during WW II in the 85th Mountain Infantry Regiment. During his service he was responsible for producing maps, sketches and overlays concerning military tactical situations as well as being part of the Mountain Ski Patrol in the Italian Alps. He was employed for over 25 years as Treasurer & VP of Carlyle Johnson in Manchester, retiring in 1990. He was also an avid skier, golfer and tennis player. Sked is survived by his two nieces; Doreen Melesko of Manchester and Joyce Fontaine-Saavedra and her husband Ben Saavedra of Wayne, NJ, his nephew Randall Crawford of Ellington, several grandnieces, grandnephews, their families and his longtime friend William Tetro of East Hartford. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister Eleanor "Bunnie" Crawford and his brother-in-law William Crawford.
Funeral services and burial with Military Honors in Hillstown Road Veteran's Cemetery, Manchester will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
