Elizabeth J. (Hayes) Schendel, 85 of Manchester, CT, wife of the late Paul F. Schendel, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at an area convalescent home with her family and close friend by her side.
She was born in Acton Turville, England on August 25, 1932, daughter of the late John and Lillian (Ginn) Hayes. She was raised in England and was a nurse and mid-wife before moving to the United States in the late 1950's where she met her husband.
Betty was involved in the Transatlantic Brides and Parents Association (TBPA) where she was the secretary of the local branch for many years. She loved to garden, sew, knit, bake, going to church, and hanging out with her cat Lucy.
She is survived by two daughters, Beth Kinch and her husband Malcolm of Kent, WA, and Pauline Zysk and her husband Donald of Manchester, her sister, Anne Beesley in England, and several nieces, nephews, grandcats and a granddog. Besides her parents she was predeceased by a brother, Brian Hayes.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 19th, at 11 AM at St. George's Episcopal Church, 1150 Boston Tpke. (Rts. 6 & 44) in Bolton. Burial is private in the East Cemetery in Manchester. There are no callings hours.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial donations to St. George's Episcopal Church, PO Box 9158, Bolton, CT 06043-9158.
