Eleanor (Ackerman) Merrill, 90 of Manchester, formerly of Tolland, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at her home with her family by her side.
Eleanor was born in Salem, NH on April 13, 1927, daughter of Guy L. and Gladys I. (Robie) Ackerman. She was raised in New Hampshire, moved to Tolland in the early 1950's, and has been a resident of Manchester since 2005. She was a longtime employee of P&WA as a switchboard operator. She worked in the Vernon Tax Assessor's office, she owned the One-Stop Package Store in Willington and her last job was at Trim Fashions in Vernon, retiring in the early 2000's.
She was a former member, and served on the board, of the Friends of Tolland Library, and was former member of the Republican Women's Club of Tolland. Eleanor was an avid reader, averaging a book a day up until a couple of weeks ago, and enjoyed playing board games. She was always smiling, quick witted and enamored by George Clooney.
She is survived by her loving daughter, with whom she has lived since moving to Manchester, Cynthia L. Merrill of Manchester, and her grandson, Peter Castonguay, his wife Alyse, and their children Jacob and Abby, of Tolland.
