Elaine (Meyer) Champlin, 81, of Ellington, beloved wife of the late Merrill V. Champlin Jr., died peacefully August 15, 2015 at her home with her family by her side. She was married to Merrill for 65 years. Elaine was born March 12, 1934 in Manchester, daughter of the late Jessie (Doggart) & Clifford Meyer. She drove school buses in Ellington for over 20 years, she delivered mail in Tolland for 10 years and delivered the Journal Inquirer with her husband for 8 years. Elaine's last job was with McDonalds in Rockville for more than 6 years before she got sick. She loved to bowl, make wedding and birthday cakes and Christmas and Easter candy. Her husband Merrill said when they were married that he would show her the world, and he did. Elaine is survived by three daughters, Nancy Raymond of Ashford, Carol Gustafson of Rocky Hill, Sandra Champlin and her husband Joe of Ellington, three sons, Clifford and his wife Roseanne of Old Saybrook, Merrill V. Champlin III of Ellington and Roy Champlin also of Ellington. She also has 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Calvin, two sisters, Evelyn and Katherine, a grandson Bobby and two sons-in-law Bill and Paul. The family wishes to thank the nurses and aides at the Visiting Nurse and Health Services for the wonderful care of their mother. Calling hours will be held Sunday August 23, 2015 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. Services and burial will be private in the East Cemetery Manchester.
