Edward T Lucas

July 1, 1930 — December 11, 2018

When I asked my father why, after long lives accumulating knowledge, people died, he said, "That way everybody gets a turn." My fathers long and full turn on Earth ended on December 11, 2018. Born July 1st, 1930, Edward T. Lucas, of Manchester, was the youngest son of Frank and Katherine Lucas originally from Poland. He was born in the same house he lived in all of his life. He served in the Navy, then was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 36 years as a Toolmaker. He enjoyed fly fishing with his own expertly-tied fishing flies. As he was an avid gardener, we waited each Summer for the first delicious tomato, from plants grown from seeds under a hand-made light fixture in the dining room. He enjoyed taking us on vacations where ever there was a river. He leaves to hold dear his memory, his loving and appreciated daughter, Janet Stone, and her husband, Rick of Vernon; his nephew, Stanley Lucas, with whom he shared many fishing and camping adventures; and many people who showed him wonderful and lifesaving kindness including: Fox Hill Center, Vernon VNA, St. Francis Hospital, Dr. Sappington, Brinda Jefferson, Holly Fregin, Bill Hoover, Roy Hayes, Nola Currie, the Pines, my wonderful Stone family, and the Lucases. He missed his wife, Barbara Ferris Lucas, who had doted on him, but predeceased him in January, both having lived from 1930 to 2018. Edward, known as "Uncle Eddie" to most, will be remembered for his love of fishing, fresh-caught trout, camping in Vermont, gardening, traveling, pets, kids, Red Sox, family and friends and for his Yankee ingenuity. There will be no calling hours or services, burial will be private at the convenience of his family. Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, Manchester, is in care of his arrangements. Memorial contributions in Edwards name may be made to any pet rescue organization. To leave an online message of condolence for his family, please visit www.holmeswatkins.com .
