Edward F. Bania, 87, of Manchester, loving husband of the late Arnette M. (Gustafson) Bania died peacefully on Thursday, February 12, 2015 in Manchester. Ed was born September 27, 1927 in Hartford son of the late Frank and Magdelina (Wnuk) Bania. He was a veteran of the US Army serving his country during WW II. Ed was employed with Savitt Jewelers for over 30 years as a Collections Specialist and later with the American Eagle Federal Credit Union for over 20 years until his retirement in 2003. He was a longtime member of Calvary Church of South Windsor. Ed enjoyed playing golf and he was an avid and devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and UConn Huskies. He is survived by his daughter Laurie Bania and her husband Rick Luebeck of Newington, his sister-in-law, Florence Gustafson of Naples, FL, three nieces; Lisa Gustafson of Coventry and Karen Gustafson and Dawn Gustafson both of Naples, FL and his close friends and caregivers, Leslie and Randy McCarthy of Manchester. In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by his two sisters, Anastasia Murray and Josephine Hogan and his brother-in-law, Albert Gustafson Jr. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester from 10:30 -11:00 am with a service at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be private in East Cemetery, Manchester. Memorial contributions may be made to Masonicare Partners Home Health & Hospice, 111 Founders Plaza, East Hartford, CT 06108.
