Dr. Edward J. Kenefick, Jr. DDS, 99, of Manchester, CT, passed away on July 26th, 2026 at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on August 10, 1926, in Hartford, CT to Edward J. Kenefick, Sr. and Mary (McCarthy) Kenefick.
He attended St. Anselm College and upon graduation attended Loyola (Chicago) University School of Dentistry graduating in 1954 with a Doctor of Dental Science degree. In 1961, after he was married, he moved to Manchester, where he resided until his death. Dr. Kenefick was a self-employed dentist practicing in East Hartford, CT until his retirement in 1994 after nearly 40 years in practice. He was a proud veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a parishioner of St. Bridget Church in Manchester, CT. He was a man of faith who valued honesty and integrity.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather devoted to and loved by his family, always hosting holiday feasts and socializing with family and friends that were near and dear to him. He was well read, enjoyed traveling, gardening, summering at the beach with family. He enjoyed going to Tanglewood, Lake George, Saratoga Race Course and UConn Football Tailgates. He will be most remembered for his wit, generosity, calm demeanor, loving nature and his sense of humor. He was cultured and magnanimous in making sure those he loved received the same exposure, opportunities and experiences.
He leaves to cherish his memory and will be dearly missed by his son Edward J. Kenefick, III and his wife Susan of Coventry. His three cherished granddaughters, Danielle Kenefick Gravelle (Jarred), Nicole Kenefick (Brandon) and Stephanie Kenefick. All of Seaford, DE. Two Great-grandchildren, Preston and Hudson Gravelle. His brother, Walter Kenefick of the Villages Florida and several nieces and nephews and their families. He was especially close to his niece Mariann D’ Antonio and nephews Peter Bartolotta and Frank Zito and their families.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Antoinette (Zito), two brothers, Dr. Daniel Kenefick and Reverend Paul Kenefick.
Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, August 5th, 2026, at Holmes Watkins Funeral Home, located at 400 Main Street, Manchester CT, from 4:30pm till 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 6th, 2026, at St. Bridget’s Church, located at 80 Main St, Manchester, CT at 10am, followed by a burial with Military Honors at St. James Cemetery, located at 368 Broad St, Manchester, CT.
