Dorothy 'Dottie' Ouillette

June 3, 1923 — January 3, 2018

On January 3, 2018, Dorothy Ouillette, 94, of Manchester, CT passed peacefully in the comfort of the home in which she had lived for 72 years. Sixty-three of those years were spent with her loving husband, George Russell Ouillette who predeceased her. Dottie was born on June 3, 1923, in Albany, NY. She grew up in the Schenectady, NY area and came to CT following her high school graduation. She held a myriad of jobs and was always a working mother long before it became the norm. She worked for PWA and ended her career as a claims adjuster for Aetna. After retirement Dottie was the self- appointed neighborhood sentinel, going from door to window checking the pulse of the neighborhood. When not on duty, Dottie could be found at her favorite table at the Parkade Shady Glen talking with friends and staff as she nursed a cup of coffee and a single pancake.

Dottie's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Patrick Brown; her granddaughter Kimberley Churchill and her partner, Steve Miller, and her grandson Michael Brown and his wife, PJ Propes. She especially loved her great grandchildren, Kylie Churchill, Jake Churchill, Leilani Brown and Makena Brown as well as the newest family members, Kyle Huri, Kylie's fianc and Asia Johnson, Jake's girlfriend. Dottie is also survived by a sister-in-law, Betty Chappell, several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews as well as other special people who treated her like family. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son Russell, her granddaughter Mary Brown, her great granddaughter Mary Churchill, and her brother Elwood Chappell.

A celebration of Dottie's life will be held at North United Methodist Church, 300 Parker St., Manchester, CT on January 13 at 11:00. Burial will be some warm spring day in the East Cemetery in Manchester with her husband and son. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to NUMC Memorial Fund or to your local food bank. And in Dottie's honor, take a long walk, talk with everyone you meet, and do something kind.
