Dorothy M. Guthrie, 93, of Manchester, departed this life to be with Christ her savior on Thursday, May 12, 2016. Dorothy was born November 3, 1922 in Manchester, daughter of the late Robert H Guthrie Sr. and Anne (McNally) Guthrie. She attended local schools and had been a lifelong resident. Dorothy retired in 1981 from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford after 34 years of service. She was a longtime dedicated member of the Gospel Hall in Manchester. Dorothy enjoyed travel to California, the Holy Land, New Zealand to reconnect with a lost branch of the family, Virginia Beach and many trips to Ogunquit Maine. She enjoyed playing the piano, needlework, crossword puzzles, doing puzzles and spending time with her extended family at the Gospel Hall. She took early retirement from Pratt & Whitney to start her real vocation, as a loving caregiver. She devoted decades to her mother, brother John and sister. When those tasks were accomplished, she focused on Robert and his wife Inge, her lifelong friend Alice and her cousin Evelyn Jassie. If she had a fault, it was not wanting to accept help. When the snow fell, she was out shoveling, or sweeping the grass off the sidewalk. Dorothy will be dearly missed by her family. She is survived by two nephews, Jim Guthrie and Charlie Eastwood, and a niece JoAnn Quak. Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her three brothers James, Robert and John and her sister Eunice Eastwood. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Holmes Funeral Home; 400 Main St. Manchester from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 10:00 am at the funeral home followed by burial in East Cemetery, Manchester.
