Doris E. Stephenson

Doris E. (Sauer) Stephenson, 75, a lifelong resident of Bolton, CT, died Monday, July 9, 2018 at Manchester Memorial Hospital after an acute illness.
She was born in Lebanon, CT on December 15, 1942, one of twelve children of the late William and Elizabeth (Krause) Sauer. She was raised in Bolton, and she graduated from Manchester High School. Prior to retiring she had been employed by JC Penney but continued to work part time for the Andover Board of Education as elementary school cafeteria staff where she enjoyed interacting with all of the children.
Doris was a longtime member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church of Manchester and was active in the Ruth's Circle. Some of her favorite past times were playing cards, camping, shopping, going on trips with her sisters, daughters and granddaughters, sister-in-law and cousins, going to the beach, going for rides, and watching the Red Sox with her adored dogs, Dach and Shadow. Her most cherished times were the many trips with her granddaughters to Walt Disney World. Doris will be missed by many with her unassuming way and love for life. Her gentle kindness and bright smile touched many.
She is survived by two daughters, Lori B. Stephenson and her longtime boyfriend George Leaphart Jr. of Bolton, and Cheryl L. Folsom and her husband Clayton of Andover; three granddaughters, Christina, Catherine, and Cynthia Folsom; three brothers, Bill Sauer and his wife Nancy, Don Sauer and his wife Patty, and Fred Sauer and his wife Mary; four sisters, Jeannie Martin and her husband Tim, Rosemary Pavlik, Wilma Kehaya and her fianc John Knight, and Mary Falco and her husband Larry; her sister-in-law, Lorri Sauer; her former husband, Kenneth Stephenson and his wife Wannetta, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Doris was predeceased by three brothers, Harold, Richard, and Arnold Sauer.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at 11:00 am at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 60 Church Street, Manchester. Memorial contributions may be made to ASPCA Memorial Fund or to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
