Donald E. Varley, 88, of Manchester, husband of the late Shirley (Anderson) Varley died peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 1, 1928 in Hartford son of the late Harry and Flossie Varley. Don was a proud veteran of the US. Army serving his country in the Korean War. He was employed as a truck driver for the former W.G. Glenney Lumber Company in Manchester for over 20 years. Don was a member of the Army & Navy Club. In his early years he was a talented softball pitcher playing in several fast pitch leagues around Manchester and surrounding towns. He was an avid Boston Celtics fan and enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra. Don is survived by his two children; Stephen Varley of Manchester and Sheryl Steullet and her husband Henry of Granby, his two loving grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; Kelli Cormier and her husband Jeff and their children Bowen and Alexa all of Granby, and Justin Steullet and his wife Jessica of Ohio, his brother Melvin Varley and his wife Pat of Stuart, FL and many nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by his four sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be held at Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center St. in Manchester on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 11 am. Burial with military honors will follow in East Cemetery, Manchester.
