Donald W. Linde , 91 of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Manchester, died on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 in Florida. He was born on October 1, 1926 in Hartford son of the late Fred and Marion (Baker) Linde. He grew up in a large, loving family with 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Don was a proud veteran of WW II & the Korean War. He served his country in the US. Navy from 1943- 1949 and re enlisted in US. Marine Corps in 1949 where he served his Country proudly until his honorable discharge in 1953. He was a Lieutenant with the Hartford Police Dept. for over 36 years until his retirement in 1990. Don was a former parishioner of St. Bridget Church in Manchester. Don was a driven professional with an unmatched work ethic while working for the Hartford Police Dept. In his last few years working, he was in charge of all Civic Center events. He was known as "Mr. Civic Center". He was always the life of the party and brought laughter to everyone he met. His favorite holiday was Christmas. When he moved to Florida, he took great pride in decorating his house for the Christmas season and won several awards for the best decorated house. He loved German Shepherds and was an avid Red Sox fan that hardly ever missed a game. He belonged to the VFW, American Legion Post 0006 and ELKS Lodge 957 in New Britain; the Hartford Police Patrolman Benevolent Association and Hartford Police Union. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Don is survived by his three children; Kimberly Linde of Manchester, Donald J. Linde of Pompano Beach, Fl, Kelly DiPietro of Southwick, MA, and three loving grandchildren: Nicholas, Michael and Christina DiPietro as well as his brothers and sisters Fred Linde, Larry Linde, Marjorie Banulski, Alice Mazur, Florence Dudley and Shirley Ross and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by his son Brian Linde and brother Robert Linde. Family and friends are welcome to attend a time of visitation at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main St. in Manchester on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 6-8 pm with military honors at 7:45 pm.
