It is with great sadness that the family of Dawn L. Markham, 80, of Ellington, CT., mourn the loss of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who passed peacefully on April 5, 2018.
Dawn was born January 20, 1938, in Hartford, CT, daughter of the late John L. and Anita (Scott) Willoughby of Manchester, CT. She graduated from Bulkeley High School, attended the University of Connecticut, and soon after married the love of her life George K. Markham, with whom she cherished 58 years of marriage.
Her greatest loves in life were her family and travel. She was able to spend winters in Florida and summers in Connecticut which allowed her to spend time with all of her children and grandchildren. She loved spending time at the family cottage in Salisbury, MA. where she and George, their children, and now their grandchildren enjoy vacationing.
She worked for years as a travel agent which allowed her to enjoy so many opportunities to travel to new places and see new sights. She could talk for hours about where she had traveled and in such detail that it felt like you were there seeing it for yourself. She went to so many different places. Portugal and Ireland were her favorites but she would not recommend Hawaii.
Dawn was known for her strong spirit and her outgoing personality. She never met a stranger and definitely had the gift of gab. She was an avid reader, and especially enjoyed family gatherings, relaxing at the beach, a good vodka tonic, and time spent with good friends.
She will be lovingly remembered by her loving husband, George K. Markham of Ellington, CT., her son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Janice Markham of Vernon, CT., her daughters, Stacy Markham of Saint Petersburg, FL., and Carey Markham of Saint Petersburg, FL., her grandchildren, Rachel Markham and her husband Francis Ashwin of Boston, MA., Kyle, Rebecca, and Shannon Markham of Vernon, CT., her sister Elaine Crocker and her partner Michael Cunningham of Manchester, CT., her brother , Scott Willoughby and his partner Gail Andrews of Bridgton, ME., her brother-in-law Mason Markham of Southampton, NY., her nephew, Dale Crocker of Ellington, CT., her niece Kristin Crocker-Marshall and husband Doug Marshall of Naples, FL., her niece Laura Willoughby of Springfield, MA., several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including her lifelong friends, Anne Martelle of Weathersfield, CT., and Arlene and Bob French of Henniker, NH.
Dawn (Mom), you will be truly missed each and every day, but until we meet again...see you later alligator.
