David Milton Strickland, 60 of Vernon, CT, formerly of Manchester, CT, loving husband of the late Dolores L. "Dodie" (Mumford) Strickland, died Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Rockville General Hospital after a long illness.
Dave was born in Manchester on February 19, 1955, one of five sons of the late Roy L. and Ethel (Boyle) Strickland. He was a Manchester resident most of his life, moving to Vernon in 1998. He was a former employee for the K-F Brick Co. in South Windsor, the Manchester Board of Education, the Stroehman Bread Co. in East Hartford, and was also a residential flooring installer. Dave was a member of the Manchester Coon and Fox Club, was a crossword puzzle enthusiast, and enjoyed talking sports. His greatest loves, however, was his wife, step-children and step-grandchildren.
He is survived by his step-daughter and step-son, Lisa Barlow Moran and her husband Bob of Manchester, and Robert Hallowell in Washington State ; three step-grandchildren, Shelley, Sara, and Matthew; two brothers, Bill Strickland and Tom Strickland, both of Manchester, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Ray "Skip" Strickland and Don Strickland.
He will be buried next to his wife with a graveside service on Saturday, June 27, at 10:00 AM in Section K-2 Westminster of the East Cemetery in Manchester (use the Autumn Street entrance). There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Assoc. of Vernon, 8 Keynote Drive, Vernon, CT 06066.
