Constance Walker

July 2, 1936 — February 15, 2021

Constance Mary Williams Walker, 84, of West Hartford, CT, passed away peacefully February 15, 2021 in her West Hartford home with her three caring sons at her side.Constance was born in Maplewood, New Jersey in 1936 to Ernest Paul Williams and Ethel Jones Williams. Her family history was long indeed, related to members of the Mayflower, founders of Hartford and Manchester, CT.She was a small woman with large colorful stories to tell. She could drive a stick shift better than anyone else in New England and would love to tell you all about it too. Some of the best times of her early years were spent at Deer Lake Club in Boonton, New Jersey, swimming and boating - her most favorite leisure activities. Teenage years were spent at Emma Willard, an all-girls school in upstate New York. Lots of great stories to tell there! Such as dance nights at all-boys schools and having Jane Fonda as a classmate. Then off to Bennett Junior college in Millbrook, New York where even more flavorful stories were gathered. Boston University was next, where she studied design and worked for the Dean's office. There she met her husband John Walker, and after a lovely wedding ceremony they were off to sunny Stinson Beach, California. There she established three successful businesses. However, difficulties led to her moving back to Connecticut. Did that slow her down? No. She became Supermom! Raising three boys on her own, making sure they had everything they needed, from help on their homework to a shiny new (used) bike to assisting all three boys through their college years. All the while, she continued her work as a designer, avid sewer and lover of all fabric related activities. She was also an accomplished bowler - probably the only activity that she did for herself.Later years you might think she slowed down a bit, not Connie. Off to volunteer with the Suburban Woman's Club of West Hartford, where she was President for many years. Together with club members, she created needed items for cancer patients and veterans in need. She also helped raise money for local student tuitions. Simultaneously, she gave her time to the Manchester Historical Society, all the while teaching her grandchildren to sail and swim.Collected adjectives that defined Connie well: spunky, sharp-witted, curious, loving, stubborn, generous, attentive, supportive, spitfire. Connies three sons, John Wilson Walker lll and his wife, Angela; Anthony Williams Walker; Mathew Jones Walker and his wife Elisabeth; siblings, John Gordon, Anne Bell; and beloved grandchildren, Jasmine, Yuba, Corey and Andrea. Love she was, is, and will forever be. Services are private. To leave a condolence, please visit www.holmeswatkins.com
