Claude LeBlanc, 96, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, after spending the last several weeks surrounded by many family members, friends, and neighbors.
He was born on May 5, 1921, to Joseph and Malvina (Lizotte) LeBlanc, and grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire, eventually settling with his wife, Pauline (Roberge) LeBlanc, and family in Manchester, Connecticut. Claude and Pauline, partners who complemented each other in every way, married in 1948 and celebrated 65 years together before Pauline's death in 2014.
Claude served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-45 during World War II in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS McGinty. He worked as a tool and die maker at Fuller Brush in East Hartford for more than 30 years, holding several leadership positions in the union there. He retired in 1983.
To Claude, family was everything. From baseball coach to Boy Scout leader, he was one of the most disciplined and unselfish men who seemed to do it all. He took great pride in his vegetable garden, baking signature pies, and serving his family pickled beets. Claude delighted in being able to solve seemingly impossible engineering problems, completing crossword puzzles, and playing the next game of cards. He was always on the hunt for another book to read, as a true lifelong learner until his passing.
He leaves his children, Susan Thibedeau, and her husband, Ed, of Little Rock, Arkansas; Joe LeBlanc, and his wife, Paige, of Bolton; and Bob LeBlanc, and his wife, Joyce, of Weymouth, Massachusetts. He was Pepere to his grandchildren, Adam, Kevin, Kayle, Jessie, and Sera "Willbe," and his great-grandchildren, Nick, Paige, Emma, Stephen, KT, Jack, Joey, Ruby, Sam, Leo, and Ben. He was predeceased by his sister and brothers, Priscilla, Paul, and Donald.
Calling hours are Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. Burial will be in the spring.
