Clara Stowell

September 24, 1924 — March 31, 2016

Clara N. (Johnson) Stowell, 91, formerly of Division Street, Manchester and a lifelong Manchester resident, widow of Paul V. Stowell, died Thursday March 31, 2016 at a local convalescent home.

She was born in Manchester on September 24, 1924, daughter of Niels Arthur Winther Johnson and Hilda J. (Johnson) Johnson. She attended Manchester schools and was a lifetime member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church. Prior to retiring she had worked at Manchester Modes Clothing and Kage companies.

Clara is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Stowell and Ari Novis of Rocky Hill, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Although she had no grandchildren of her own, three of her great nieces and nephew stood in beautifully. Tyler Bushey, Erin Ashrafi, and Jaclyn Bushey, and their families were her joy. Pictures of the baby - Corinne, always made her smile. She is also survived by two very dear friends, June Roncarti and Judy Anderson

Clara was a talented seamstress who especially enjoyed making baby quilts and outfits for new family members and friends. She loved going out to eat with the girls or going to Emanuel for prayer group and meetings. Those who know her know she never missed a birthday or anniversary. She always looked for opportunities to send a card or note.

A private graveside service was held in the East Cemetery in Manchester. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Emanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 60 Church Street, Manchester, CT 06040.
