Chester J. Gilbert

Chester J. Gilbert, 91, of Manchester, formerly of Hartford died peacefully on Monday, September 19, 2016 at Manchester Manor. He was born on May 15, 1925 in Hartford son the late John and Rose (Norbrin) Gilbert. Chester was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Navy. Prior to his retirement in 1986 he was employed with Royal Typewriter and later Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Chet was an avid guitarist and he enjoyed teaching the guitar as well. He was a member of North United Methodist Church in Manchester. He was a very well read person and a longtime NY Yankee fan. Chet is survived by his brother and sister-in-law; Russell and Lorraine Gilbert of Vernon, numerous nieces, nephews and his special friend Carolyn Gimbrone of Manchester. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters. There are no calling hours. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 11:00 am in section J-1 Veteran's Field of East Cemetery Manchester.
