Charles H. Mckenzie

March 27, 1932 — April 19, 2015

Charles Herbert McKenzie, 83, of Columbia, CT, husband of Marlane (Furbee) McKenzie, passed away on April 19, 2015 after an extended illness.
Born on Long Island in 1932, son of the late Charles and Mildred McKenzie, he attended Cornell University and graduated from Gettysburg College in 1955, followed by four years of service as a pilot in the United States Air Force. He joined Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in 1959 and worked there for over 31 years in various capacities within the Manufacturing Division. He received his MBA degree from the University of Hartford in 1967. While living in Manchester, CT, he served on numerous organizations including the Town Board of Directors, Zoning Board of Appeals, Board of Tax Review and as treasurer of the Republican Town Committee. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Eagle Federal Credit Union and served as President from 1976 to 1978.
He is survived by his two sons: Chuck and his wife Kelly, Steve and his wife Jill, grandchildren Matthew, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Stephen, a special cousin Arlene Leidig and an exceptional dear friend Elizabeth Stoppa.
There are no calling hours. A military burial will be held at Calverton National Cemetery, Long Island, NY, at the convenience of the family. Any memorial donations may be made to the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department. The Holmes Funeral Home in Manchester has care of arrangements.
