Charles Lester McFall, 79, of Manchester, loving husband for 56 years of Margaret "Jean" (Swain) McFall, died Monday, June 6, 2016 at Hartford Hospital from a head injury received from a fall at his home.
He was born in Manchester on May 31, 1937, son of Tennyson and Nora (Gass) McFall and lived most of his life in Manchester. Prior to retiring in 2002, he was employed at the Allied Printing Company in Manchester for 40 years.
Charles had been a devoted member for 64 years of the Manchester Church of the Nazarene where he had served in various capacities including service on the church board, maintenance of the grounds and equipment, and as a long-term usher.
Known as "Charlie" to his family and many friends, he will be remembered for his warm smile and gentle, positive spirit. A sly player at card games, Charlie was also an avid competitor in basketball and softball.
With his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lori Lewis and her husband Edward of Barre, VT, and Barbara Chilcoat and her husband John of Tampa, FL; four grandchildren, Allen Lewis of Leland, NC, Kristin Lewis Jacoby of Adelaide, Australia, John M. Chilcoat Jr. of Tampa, FL, and Megan Chilcoat of Clearwater, FL; a sister and brother, Faith Strait of Vernon and Ernest McFall of Davenport, FL, and many nieces and nephews. Charles was predeceased by three brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 11, at 10:00 AM at the Manchester Church of the Nazarene, 218 Main Street, Manchester. Burial will follow in the East Cemetery in Manchester. Visiting hours are Friday, June 10, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester.
