Charles E. Loomis, 84, of Vernon, husband of the late Nancy (Cordner) Loomis passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Rockville General Hospital. He was born on August 28, 1930 in Hartford, son of the late Clifford and Elizabeth (Lewis) Loomis. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a heavy equipment operator for over 60 years. He worked for Upton Construction in Coventry and Dzen Construction and most recently for Aldrich Construction both in Manchester. Mr. Loomis enjoyed vacationing with his daughter and son, camping, working around his yard and especially spending time with his cat, Elmo. He is survived by, his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Alan Skinner of Vernon, his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Nancy Loomis of Londonderry, NH and his brother, Andrew Loomis of Arizona. Mr. Loomis also leaves his nine grandchildren; Alan Skinner Jr. Dean Skinner, Elizabeth and Kelly Loomis, Kimberly Dunnell and her husband Eric, Jennifer and Shawn Blotniski, and Ashley and Alex Loomis, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by his son, Charles Loomis. Memorial calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2014 from 6-8 pm at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester. Services and burial in East Cemetery, Manchester will be private.
