Catherine Zoef

Catherine Zoef passed away peacefully in Hartford Hospital on Wednesday, January 28, 2015. She was surrounded by her beloved family and friends and is now making Papa Joes pizzas with her maker. Family members she loved and cherished were at her side. She was born in Meriden, CT on December 15, 1932. She was predeceased by her parents Alexander and Alexandra Bessis Halepas and sister Eugenia. Cathy brought up her 3 children in Lake Garda, CT. Despina Zoef Clark and her husband Paul of Glastonbury, CT, Alexandra Zoef Holden and her husband James and their daughter Katherine of Arlington, VA, Charles Zoef and his wife Carol and their daughters Natalie and Gina of Manchester, CT., two sisters, Calliope Zenick of South Windsor, Claudia Bible of Manchester and several nieces and nephews and their families. She also leaves behind her adopted son, Al Lupacchino of East Hartford, CT. She was also predeceased by a brother-in-law, Frank Zenick. From early on mom had a desire to cook and serve others. She brought this passion to reality and bought Papa Joes in 1978 in Manchester, CT. For 32 years she treated her customers like family providing heartfelt personal service. Many of her customers even called her "mom." She knew everyone by name and ensured they were always well fed including their entire family. Papa Joes was the center of her life. Besides her restaurant, her attention and passion focused on loving and caring for her family as well as her beloved grandchildren. We love you "Grandma Pizza!" Calling hours are Sunday, February 1, 2015 from 1-4 pm, with a Trisagio Service at 2 pm at Watkins Funeral Home 142 East Center Street, Manchester. Funeral services will be Monday, February 2, 2015 at 12:30 pm at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral 433 Fairfield Avenue, Hartford, CT 06114. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the Cathedral. Private burial will be in St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery, Meriden, CT.
