Betty Jane (Thompson) Sherman, 91, formerly of Bolton, widow of Milton W. Sherman, died Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at a local convalescent home. She was surrounded by family as she peacefully slipped away in her sleep.
Betty Jane was born in New Haven, CT daughter of Charles Abbott Thompson and Elizabeth (Saurman) Thompson. She was raised in a Chicago suburb; later residing in West Hartford. She moved to Bolton in 1951, raising her family in the house built by her husband.
She is survived by three daughters and a son, Ellen, Julie, Margie and her husband Gaylen, and Stephen and his wife Elaine; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was a devoted wife and mother, who enjoyed poetry, humor, homemaking, and was an avid reader. Betty was known as an active ordained minister since 1952, teaching the Bible to many people. She belonged to the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday October 3 at 2:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 214 New Bolton Road in Manchester. Memorial contributions may be made to the Manchester Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
