Betty Jane Norris

Betty Jane (Johnson) Norris, 94, of Avon, formerly of Bolton and Manchester, CT, Winchester, MA and Reynoldsville, PA, beloved wife of the late James R. Norris died on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 in Avon. She was born in Reynoldsville, PA on September 16, 1920 daughter of the late Charles and Ethelyn (Pomroy) Johnson. Betty graduated from Reynoldsville High School in 1938 and Westminster College in New Castle PA in 1943. She received a Masters of Library Science from Southern CT University. Prior to her retirement, Betty was a teacher and later the librarian at the Tolland Middle School in Tolland, CT. She was an avid Celtics fan, enjoyed playing tennis, bowling, and an occasional game of pool. She was a long time member of health clubs in Vernon and later in Avon. She is survived by her two sons and a daughter-in-law; Karl and Jan Norris of Bloomfield and Dave Norris of Avon, her three granddaughters; Priscilla Ramage and her husband, John and their daughter Katie, Lauren Daversa and her daughter Addison, and Karen Norris. In addition to her husband and parents Betty Jane was predeceased by her brothers Charles Mahlon Johnson and Paul Leroy Johnson. A calling hour will be held at Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center St. Manchester on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 10 - 11 am with a service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in East Cemetery, Manchester.
