Betty Ann "Chip" (Sylvia) Holmes, 82 of Vernon, wife of the late Charles A. Holmes, died Thursday November 30, 2017 at Manchester Memorial Hospital.
She was born in New Bedford, MA on July 7, 1935, daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Fratus) Sylvia, and had been a resident of Vernon for most of her life.
Betty Ann is survived by three children, Wayne Joseph Holmes of Vernon, Suzanne Morin of Vernon, and Cheryl Bray and her husband Wayne of Willington; five grandchildren, Peter Morin, Mark Morin, Lydia Bray, Elana Bray, and Ava Bray; her sister, Jo-Ann Sylvia of Manchester, her half-brother, Albert Sylvia of Massachusetts, and her close friend, Donna Brunette of Manchester.
Betty embodied love and kindness, she was the heart and soul of her family. Betty's love was unconditional and never ending - her children were truly blessed. Betty loved her home but was well traveled with her husband and best friend Charlie. Betty spent her life caring for others: her great-grandmother, Aunt, grandchildren, many family dogs, Charlie her loving husband who died too young, and her mother for whom they were inseparable until 2011 when Josephine was 102 years old and Betty was stricken with Lewy Body Disease. Betty's family and many dedicated home health aides cared for Betty throughout her illness. Betty will be remembered for her wonderful home cooked meals, her love of birds, the color green, red geraniums, laughter, and her truly sweet disposition.
