Barbara Ann Shackford

Barbara Shackford left this life peacefully, at home, on Sunday April 20th surrounded by friends and family. Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Bernice and Edward Actis, she worked on Wall Street and in various other places in the legal and insurance fields. Barbara settled in Manchester, CT in 1963, and raised her family here. She loved word games, crossword puzzles, and was a champion Scrabble player. Barbara also enjoyed Tai Chi, participating and medaling in many competitions. She had a special love for her dogs and was the companion of many throughout the years. She leaves behind her son Ted Shackford, Leigh-Lynn Vitukinas, grandson Collin, and very special friend Sharon Slater. Barbara was pre-deceased by her husband, Whitney Shackford, her daughter Valerie, and son Edward. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
