Astrid Charlotte (Skoog) Wierzbicki died peacefully at home in Manchester on November 7, 2016 at the age of 94 after a sudden and short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on January 28, 1922 to the late Magnus and Agnes Skoog. After her husband Herman Wierzbicki died in 1964 she was left to raise her two sons, Roy and Wayne. She was a dedicated and loving mother. Astrid was a life-long resident of Manchester and loved sharing stories of her younger years including her memories of listening to Mary Cheney tell stories in her garden. She had an encyclopedic memory of those who served in World War II and often remarked, "They left as boys and came back men." She was an excellent ice skater and loved doing acrobatics. Astrid listened to all of the popular political talk shows, the conventions, and debates and stayed informed. At any time, she could politely fill you in on the hottest political topics. She was a well-known hairdresser in Manchester for 25 years and maintained friendships with many of her clients long after her retirement. She was predeceased by her son, Roy, 2 brothers, a sister, and 2 nephews. She leaves behind her son Wayne, 4 nephews and 1 niece, 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Astrid was known by all who knew her as a very generous, kind and loving woman. She will be truly missed by all whose lives she touched. She had often said she wished people would be kinder to one another so in her memory please give a warm smile, a hug, or a kind word to others. We would like to thank Visiting Nurse & Health Services Inc (North Central Hospice) of Vernon and Companions & Homemakers of Glastonbury for the compassionate care they gave Astrid during her illness. Astrid's family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 2-4 pm at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester. Funeral services will be celebrated on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 30 Woodside Street, Manchester. Burial will follow in East Cemetery, Manchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, CT/Western MA. office, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312. To leave a message of condolence please visit
