Arthur F. Steele

Arthur F. Steele, 86, a lifetime resident of Vernon Street in Manchester, and beloved husband of 30 years to Lynn B. (Heller) Steele, passed away on Tuesday September 29, 2015 at Hartford Hospital. Arthur, the youngest of four sons to William F. and Annie M.(Miller) Steele, was born on January 25, 1929 at the family home and farm on Vernon Street. A 1947 graduate of Manchester High School, Arthur owned and operated an excavating business, "William F. Steele & Son", for 60 years. He married Lynn in 1985, and together they continued to operate that business until retiring it several years ago. Together they also started and operated a Christmas tree business, "Steele's Tree Farm", in which Arthur continued to work until a farm accident a few weeks before his passing. Arthur was a 60 year member of Manchester Elks Lodge #1893, life member of Sphinx Omar Shrine Club in Manchester, member of Manchester Lodge 73 A.F. & A.M., and Northern Masonic Valley of Hartford. In addition to his wife Lynn and his beloved dog Macy, he is survived by three daughters, Barbara, Patricia, and Elaine, a son William, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, William, David, and Edmund. There are no calling hours and services will be private.
