(Krowchenko) Franek, 97, of Vernon, CT, passed away January 12, 2020 at Fox Hill Center. Born November 6, 1922, in Litchfield, CT, Anastasia had been a resident of Vernon for more than 75 years. She was a graduate of Rockville High School and a founding member of Sacred Heart Parish in Vernon. Known for her beautiful penmanship and letters, she was a legal secretary prior to marriage. A quintessential New Englander, Anastasia instilled those values in her family. She was an avid gardener and enthusiastic UConn basketball fan, particularly the womens team. A wonderful cook, she was known for her ethnic meals and holiday baking, particularly her Christmas cookies. In addition to her parents, Anastasia was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Joseph S. Franek Sr., brothers John, Arthur and Henry Krowchenko, as well as sisters Mary Labaha, Anna Staneski and Pauline Remenik. Anastasia is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph S., Jr. and Claire R., as well as granddaughter Emily K., all of Owensboro, KY, son and daughter-in-law David M. and Mary Shoemaker of River Forest, IL, brother-in -law Walter Dudek of Benson, NC, sister-in-law Veronica Gere of Rocky Hill, special niece Denise Archibald of Ellington and numerous other nieces and nephews. Our family wishes to thank long-time neighbors, Betty and Rudy Roggenkamp, Judy Sullivan and special niece Denise Archibald, as well as the physicians and nurses at Manchester Memorial Hospital, Fox Hill Center and Visiting Nurse/Hospice Services for their care, support and assistance.
