Alice (Mendes) Ferreira, age 91, of Newburyport, MA, formerly of East Hartford, CT, beloved wife for 55 years of the late Antone L. Ferreira, died on March 12, 2016. Alice was born on August 22, 1924 in Westport, MA daughter of the late Manuel Miranda Mendes and Maria Elias (Nascimento) Mendes.
Prior to her retirement in 1989, Alice was employed as a Supervisor for over 25 years with CT DMV in Wethersfield. Alice loved to travel, and made several trips to Portugal to connect with family. She was an amazing seamstress and crafter, an avid reader, and loved working in her beautiful gardens. In her retirement she researched and created her family tree. Alice was known for her hospitality, her generosity, her storytelling and her love of family.
Alice is survived by her three children; Cindy MacIsaac and her husband Dean MacIsaac Sr. of Newburyport, MA with whom she made her home, Richard A. Ferreira of Nashville, TN and Brenda Ferreira and her husband David Seligman of Bali, Indonesia, her granddaughter; Rachel MacIsaac Myers and her husband, Christopher of Norwalk, CT, her two grandsons; Dean MacIsaac Jr. and Sean MacIsaac and his wife, Brenda all of Plymouth, MA, seven great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Alice also leaves her brother; Jody Mendes and his wife; Peggy of Manchester, CT, her three sisters; Tally Bariteau of Dartmouth, MA, Dolores Vieira of New Bedford, MA and Elsie Lima of Manchester, CT and many nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by a brother Antone Costa.
Calling hours will be held at Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center St., Manchester on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 4-7 pm with a service at 7 pm. Burial will be private in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 200 Executive Blvd, Southington, CT 06489-1058.
