Alice O. Brown

Alice O. (Sokoloski) Brown, age 89, formerly of Manchester, widow of Frederick J. Brown, died Tuesday July 29, 2014 at Woodlake of Tolland.
Alice was born in Simsbury on September 10, 1924, daughter of Peter and Anna (Sarcavick) Sokoloski. She was raised in Simsbury then moved to Manchester. During her adult years she was a day care provider, Girl Scout leader, avid bowler, enjoyed tending her garden, and was a parishioner of St. Bridget Church.
She is survived by two daughters and two sons, Linda Young and her husband Terry of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Lisa Pekala and her husband Walter of Ellington, Kenneth Brown and his wife Mary of Eastford, and Ronald Brown and Kathy Wilkie of Manchester; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Hernandez and her husband Erik, Nicole and Ryan Brown, Paige Burgess and her husband Jason, Zachary and Jason Young, Kasey and Brianna Pekala; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Dyjeck of Tariffville, and Betty Etienne of East Hartford, and numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was predeceased by a grandson, Shaun Young, five brothers and two sisters.
Her family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Woodlake and Vernon visiting nurses for all their wonderful care of Alice.
A prayer service will be held Saturday, August 2, at 11:00 AM at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester with burial to follow in St. James Cemetery in Manchester. Visiting hours are Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
