Alfred F. Lemire, 82, of Tolland, formerly of Vernon, died peacefully at home on Friday, December 26, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born May 30, 1932 in Hartford son of the late Alfred E. and Margaret (Roberts) Lemire. Al was raised in Hartford, attended local schools and was a graduate of Hartford Regional Technical High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving his country during the Korean War. Al was employed as Vice President and Plant Manager for Allied Printing Services Inc. of Manchester for many years before becoming owner and President of New Image Printers in Manchester from 1981-2009. He was a member of American Legion Post #14 in Vernon and a former volunteer with the Vernon Fire Department. Al enjoyed playing golf and was a former member of the Manchester Country Club. He was an avid reader, bird watcher and outdoorsman who enjoyed skiing, snowmobiling, hunting in Maine and boating. Al loved animals and enjoyed his days as a gentleman farmer. He closely followed his beloved New York Yankees and he enjoyed watching UConn basketball and football. Al is survived by his four children; Kathy Jo Winters of Tolland with whom he made his home, Al Lemire and his wife, Gina of Monson, MA, Matthew Lemire and his wife, Lisa of Ellington and Jason Lemire and his wife, Patty of Stafford, four loving grandchildren; Nicole Cuillo and her husband, Daniel of Virginia, Andrew Daniel Winters of Tolland, Brittany Marie Lemire and Madison Ann Lemire both of Ellington, his great-granddaughter, Carmella Audrey Cuillo of Virginia, the mother of his children, Angela Lemire of Tolland, his sister, Irene Gauthier of Quebec, Canada and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by his two sisters, Rhea and Therese and his three brothers, Alcide, Arthur and William. His family is extremely grateful to Dr. M. Saud Anwar for his exceptional care and especially his gentleness in treating our father these many years. We would also like express our appreciation to the staff of the North Central Hospice Unit of VN & HS of CT, especially to his nurse, Kathleen Frank, for their kindness in caring for our father. Memorial calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester from 2-5 pm with a prayer service at 5 pm. Interment with military honors will be in South Cemetery, Tolland at a later date.
