Alfred W. Keeney

August 26, 1925 — February 6, 2017

Alfred W. Keeney, 91, lifelong resident of Manchester, loving husband for 62 years of Lorraine (Gauthier) Keeney, died Monday February 6, 2017 at his home with his family by his side.

Al was born in Manchester on August 26, 1925, son of Wilmer and Mabel (Buell) Keeney, attended Manchester schools, and served in the US Navy during World War II. He helped operate his family's strawberry farm as well as The City View Dance Hall, and retired as a machinist from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company in East Hartford after thirty four years of service. Upon retiring, Al enjoyed traveling to West Melbourne, FL for the winters.

As well as being a long time member of the Manchester Army-Navy Club, Al enjoyed racing stock cars, square dancing and playing cards.

Often, when purchasing something new from the store, it would be "modified" to his specifications. The term handyman was an understatement, he could fix just about anything.

With his wife, he is survived by five children, Diane Caron and her husband Steven of Colchester, Theresa "Terry" Keeney of Cocoa Beach, FL, Joan Mikolowsky of Hebron, Sandra Hoyt and her husband William of Manchester, and David Keeney and his wife Christine of Coventry; seven grandchildren, Nathan and Jennifer Caron, Nicholas and Sarah Mikolowsky, Erica Hoyt, Alyssa and Ashley Keeney, and nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank all our family and friends that have supported us as well as the staff at the VNA Hospice in Vernon and a special recognition to Hilda for her compassionate care.

Visiting hours for family and friends are Friday, Feb. 10, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, at 10:30 AM in the West Cemetery, 271 Spencer Street, Manchester.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 101 Centerpoint Drive, Suite 107, Middletown, CT 06457 or the American Parkinson Disease Foundation (CT Chapter), PO Box 718, Old Mystic, CT 06372.
