Adeline "Addy" Riley, 93, of Manchester, CT wife of the late Hugh Riley Jr, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, surrounded by family.
Addy, daughter of the late Lura and Raymond Phelps, grew up in Wethersfield and Manchester and graduated from Manchester High School. She worked for Pratt and Whitney and Travelers Insurance before starting a family. She then pursued her lifelong interest in nursing and was employed at Manchester Hospital and then Visiting Nurses Association until retirement.
Addy was a dedicated and caring person to all in need as she grew up through the Great Depression, WWII, and continued to give as she volunteered with the Red Cross, assisting with the casualties of the great circus fire of '44 in Hartford.
Addy was a loving and giving mother. She looked forward to the time spent vacationing up at Lake George and lived to enjoy cooking, gardening, dancing and watching her grandson perform. She was so thankful to her neighbors, the Belknaps, for all the help and caring they provided through the years. Addy was known as the "compliment lady" and could make anyone around her feel great! She was an angel on Earth!
In addition to her parents, Addy was predeceased by her siblings: Donald, Virginia, Dwight, Douglas and Marge Phelps. She was also predeceased by her two children; Hugh and Patricia Riley. Addy is survived by her daughter Nancy Riley of Terryville, CT and grandson Jesse Riley and family Nicole and Christyan of Wethersfield, CT.
