Joseph R. Bernard, 78 of Dayville, CT, formerly of Manchester, CT, passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at a local convalescent home. He was the husband of the late Grace P. (Tarpinian) Bernard, whom he married in 1986 and missed dearly. Joe was born in Winslow, Maine on December 30, 1939, son of John and Mary (Sirois) Bernard. He was raised in Maine, became a resident of Manchester for many years, and moved to Dayville two years ago. Prior to retiring he had been employed by Stop & Shop Supermarkets and was previously employed at Carlisle Johnson machine shop. In his early adult years was a member of the Manchester Eighth Utilities Volunteer Fire Department. Joe is survived by Grace's children, Lisa Bouchard and her husband Michael Maldonado of Old Orchard Beach, ME, and Lance Bouchard and his wife Michelle of Woodstock, CT, and their children Danielle, Dylan, and Andre, two sisters, Adrienne Theriault of Hemet, CA and Dorothy Joseph of Winslow, ME, and several nephews and nieces. Besides his wife, Joe was predeceased by his sisters, Betty Lacombe and Gloria Litchfield, a brother, Thomas Bernard, and his canine companions, Teddy, Oliver, and Mitch.
