Jeffrey Mirek, 63, of Cherry Brook Healthcare, passed away after a long struggle with many health issues. Jeff was born on July 25, 1956 in Hartford, CT, son of the late Phyllis (Osleger) Mirek and the late Joseph Mirek. He leaves behind his only child; his beloved daughter Danielle, his former wife Catherine (Daigle) Mirek, his brother Ronald and sister in law Carolyn, as well as his nephew Trevor and niece Justine Mirek. He also leaves to mourn, his Auntie Irene, Greg, Tommy, and Judy (his favorite cousin). Jeff was always very appreciative of your visits to him. Jeff also was loved by many Daigle’s: Guy and Debbie, Gil and Carol, Paul and Irene, George and Dixie, Normand and Shari as well as all of their children.
After graduating from Hartford High School, Jeff went cross country to see the world and ended up living in California for over a year. He worked in a psychiatric unit at Van Nuys Hospital.
Jeff later worked for the US Postal Service for over 27 years and truly loved his co-workers and friends he made over the years.
Shortly after marrying, Jeff had to have emergency dialysis for his failing kidneys. He had kidney dialysis for 3 years before receiving a cadaver kidney. Throughout his adult life with kidney issues, being flown by LifeStar for kidney rejection, developing diabetes, surviving two heart attacks, open heart surgery, and being in a coma for nine weeks. He then developed facial skin cancer, went through radiation, went on dialysis again, and many other complications throughout his life. Despite all of the health issues that Jeffrey endured, he still kept a positive attitude and always had a joke or two to tell. His motto was “take it as it goes” and “it is what it is”. Even the night before he passed, we were told he was joking around with the nursing staff at UCONN Medical Center.
We would like to thank Cherry Brook Healthcare and their staff for their care of Jeffrey and all of the hospitals that Jeffrey frequented.
Services will be private. Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home is in care of arrangements. Jeffrey will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Cemetery in Rockville, CT next to his beloved mother.
