Janet Elisabeth Winter passed away at home on the afternoon of 8/18/2019. She was 72.
Janet was born in Hartford, and grew up in Windsorville, as one of six children. She was close to her sisters and brother. After graduating high school in 1965, she began work at Pratt & Whitney, from which she retired as Executive Secretary in 1981. It was there that she met Gary Winter, the love of her life. In 1979, they planned a house, built it in Manchester, and remained there the rest of their lives. They were married 45 years, until Gary’s passing in 2017.
When she was young, Janet enjoyed creating works of art with needlepoint and embroidery. She loved cats, and the Yankees, and nurtured an abiding Christian faith, which led her to be active in the Episcopal church and to develop deep ties at St. Mary’s. She was generous; she wanted to help those around her, supporting them as she was able. She loved her family. She loved her friends.
She is survived by her sisters Lorraine Mas and Sharon Browski; her daughters Carlene Ingram and Kimberly Stewart, and their husbands Steven and Finlay; her adopted daughter Beth Hulevitch; her dear friends Louise Farnsworth, Leslie Frey, Laury Mathews, and Sandra Thorpe; six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She will be missed. Deepest gratitude is expressed to Masonicare/Hospice and Stay at Home Care for the comfort and care they provided to her, and to her church and TOPS families, who uplifted and supported her.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019 from 9:30-11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 41 Park St., Manchester with a funeral service to begin at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in East Cemetery, Manchester. To leave an online message of condolence for her family, please visit www.holmeswatkins.com.
